Gulfport is the gateway to Henderson County if you travel east across the Great River Bridge and along U.S. 34 from Iowa. This tiny town along the river has proven the notion of community spirit and tenacity. On June 17, 2008 the levee broke and allowed the Mississippi River to flood 28,000 acres of farmland as well as the village of Gulfport and Stevenson Lake. The community is working together to rebuild what was left of their small town. Much rebuilding remains to be done.
